The Martinez

The Martinez Cocktail has multiple origin stories that place it somewhere in the San Francisco Bay Area. Some accounts say the drink was made in San Francisco, maybe even by Jerry Thomas, for ferry travelers on their way to the city of Martinez, CA. Other accounts say the drink originated in Martinez. Many also speculate that the Martini is a riff on the Martinez and get’s it name from the Martinez as well.

I’ve included two recipes for this drink. One calls for Haymans’s Old Tom Gin (sub London Dry Gin if you can’t find it), Dolin Sweet Vermouth, Luxardo Maraschino liqueur, and Fee Brother cardamom brokers style bitters. And alternate recipe calls for Dry Curacao and orange bitters.
