Bourbon Special
The Bourbon Special is one of the lesser known Tiki cocktails and comes from Steve Crane and his Kon Tiki chain of restaurants. It’s a simple bourbon and ginger drink with additional falernum and angostura. The recipe was first shared by Beachbum Berry in Beachbum Remixed In the Tropical Standard version, Garret Richard takes it a step further with the addition of a lime cordial and homemade ginger syrup + soda water in place of ginger ale.

Bourbon Special
Ingredients
5 drops salt solution
2 dashes Angostura bitters
½ oz lime juice (15 ml)
1 tsp falernum
⅜ oz ginger syrup (11.25 ml)
⅜ oz lime cordial (11.25 ml)
1 ¾ oz Elijah Craig Bourbon (52.5 ml)
3 oz soda water (90 ml)
Directions
- Add all ingredients to tin except soda water. Shake. Add soda water to tin to mix, then pour into glass with new ice. No garnish
